Videos de Música
The music videos are finally ready to share! Before you view, I want to share a few words about the process with you. The music videos have four main purposes, first to review words that the students have been practicing, second to give the students ownership of their learning, third to let students have fun with the language, and fourth to show students that Spanish is an active part of our world (not just a part of the classroom). Editing the videos is a lot of work, but it is AMAZING to see how much the students have learned this year. It is also wonderful to see how much fun they have while making the videos. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!
The music videos are a student driven project. While last year I chose songs for the students, this year each grade level voted on the song they wanted to make. Students also picked their own groups, picked the part of the song they wanted to perform, made up their own moves, and made their own props. While many students chose costumes that 'fit' their parts (i.e. a teacher wearing a suit), many other students chose costumes that are 'outside the box' (i.e. instead of being a cat, they were a 'princess cat'). Allowing students to choose what they wear allows them to express themselves in a unique way and makes each video customized to what the student's personalities (it also gives us a chance to learn some new vocabulary that is important to the students). Many groups made amazing props as well! For more detailed information about the process at each grade level, please see below. To view last years music videos, click the green buttons below.
A note about subtitles: A note about subtitles: Subtitles were added in Spanish to give students an extra chance to read and hear the language at the same time (which is one of the best ways to increase fluency).

Kinder
Kindergarten student's chose two different songs, 'Baila con tu cuerpo/Dance with your Body (a great song for reviewing the parts of the body) and Los colores/The Colors (a great song to review colors). Both songs are by Basho and Friends. Basho has a great YouTube channel with lots of music for young Spanish learners. Check it out for more fun songs! Enjoy the music and thank you for sharing your special young learners with me!

primer (1st)
First grade students chose two different songs, Casa loca/Crazy House by , Basho and Friends and '¿Puedo Ir Al Baño?' by Sr. Wooly. Casa Loca is a great song to review house vocabulary that students learned this year. For this video some students went very literal and made dance moves that went exactly with the words in the song, while other groups chose to show what they believed went on inside the crazy house with cool personalized dance moves. ' ¿Puedo Ir Al Baño?/ Can I go to the bathroom? ' by Sr. Wooly is a song about students begging their teacher to go to the bathroom. This song is both funny, and a great way to review important high frequency words.

segundo (2nd)
Second grade students chose the most challenging song offered, "Las Excusas". This is a Sr. Wooly song and was written to teach students high frequency words in a funny way. Sr. Wooly's site can be visited here, and all 2nd and 3rd grade students already have an account. This is a great resources for the summer! Second and third grade students have full access to Sr. Wooly's site. This song is a story/song about a girl who forgot to do her Spanish homework, and her 8 excuses. Words practiced include: maestra (teacher), tengo (I have), ocho (8), excusas (excuses). Ordinal numbers (primero (first), segundo (second), tercero (third), cuarto (fourth), quinto (fifth), sexto (sixth) séptimo (seventh), and octavo (eighth). Also: tarea (homework), carro (car), médico (doctor), fui (I went) fue (he/she went), perro (dog), comió (ate), mochila (backpack), hermano (brother) soy (I am ), favorita (favorite) su (his/her), mi (my), médico (doctor).

Tercer (3rd)
Third grade students had a choice to make a music video OR to write a story in Spanish and act it out using a Green Screen App. The third graders loved the music videos, but were ready for a new challenge, and chose to write a play. We started work on our play by creating a character to star in our story as a class. Students then each created their own character (which gives them a chance to practice lots of high frequency words). Some of the student's individual characters will also star in our class play. Writing and recording a play takes longer than the music videos, and we were not ready to share our work with you tonight. When we DO finish our plays, I will post them on the class website, and send notification to parents.
